Team Leaders

Javier Montano
Clop is one of those few programs that target underrepresented students who may not have the resources to pursue a four year university. This program gives hope to students to find the leader inside of them so they can have a huge impact in their community. This program offers the right resources that will put you on the right track to wherever you want to pursue an education at. Plus you meet many similar students who face the same struggles you faced in different communities and this will motivate you to make a positive impact in your community.

Having first hands experience with minority students and know the impact that a leader and mentee have upon them. Additionally, as a third yr first generation student, I know many resources and experiences to share that will ultimately help any group of students especially students at CLOP.

I believe in the power of Representation. I want to demonstrate to our to the participates of this program that they can achieve anything they want to do no matter the barriers and struggles that society, and this country to puts on us. I want them to know that they are loved, powerful and resilient.

I decided to be a part of CLOP because I want to be able to be a mentor and guide these students through college. Being a first generation student I never had someone to guide me towards the right direction and I want to be able to be their helping hand. #GREENTEAM

I decided to apply for the CLOP team because I have seen what this program can mean for high school students who may feel lost like I once did. I had a lot of fun helping out as a volunteer for the past two years, but I always knew that I wanted to have an official position one day. It is already an amazing program, but I feel that having a position will give me a better chance to help improve CLOP and evolve as a person along with it.

I chose CLOP because it creates a spark for people to pursue something higher in education. The students who attend CLOP need to know they belong to schools such as UCSB, UCLA, Harvard, just as much as anyone else.

Pursuing higher education was one of the hardest yet eye opening experience I have lived so far in my life. Coming from a low income community I saw it imposible but now I am not too far from graduation. Being able to offer students the opportunity through clop, to see beyond their own community horizons and see that they too have the capability to continue pursuing education is the reason I continue to do CLOP.

I chose CLOP because I get the chance to impact young people’s lives in a positive manner by demonstrating the possibilities and options that are out there.

I’m excited to be able to encourage students to dream big and to not let institutional barriers, personal barriers, or any adversities define you and stop you from achieving your goals. As a first generation college student, I know what it’s like to have very few resources when applying to college. I chose CLOP because I want to motivate students to reach out and take advantage of the opportunities that may come their way.
